An engine block which need a line bore is due to crankshaft failure. A badly worn crankshaft can “whip” the main bearing housings which causes distortion. A seized crankshaft (through lack of oil pressure) can cause the shell bearings to lack onto the crankshaft resulting them being forcibly rotated within their housings causing both distortion and wear.
